How to wear: How do you combine the midi skirt?

From metallic pleated skirts to lace pencil skirts and tight leather skirts – the midi skirt is extremely popular and we understand why! The midi skirt is ideal for the office because of its classic length, but can also be combined very well casually with the right shoes and top. Today we'll show you five different types of midi skirts and how to combine them!

What exactly is a midi skirt?

This season we can't ignore the midi skirt. The midi skirt fits in different styles and can be combined in countless ways. A midi skirt is a skirt that falls to just below the knee or to mid-calf. When the skirt falls to the ankles, we speak of a maxi skirt and all skirts that come to above the knee fall into the mini skirt category. The midi skirt is in principle suitable for every figure. It is important to see which type of midi skirt suits you best. Think of tight or wide and with or without print.

1. How do you combine the wide midi skirt?

The wide midi skirt falls wonderfully airy around the body and is therefore perfect for the warmer spring and summer days. We prefer to choose a wide midi skirt made of a natural fabric such as tencel, cotton or linen because these fabrics naturally fall nicely around the body. If you have shorter legs, we recommend that you combine this model skirt with a pair of nice heels. This creates extra length and prevents the skirt from looking a bit bulky. If you are blessed with a pair of long stilts, you can also combine the wide midi skirt very nicely with a pair of classic leather loafers. Light, airy tops and blouses look very chic with the wide midi skirt. Opt for light fabrics and not too wide fits to avoid a wide-to-wide effect.

2. How do you combine the midi skirt with a bow?

From the famous pussybow blouse to this midi skirt with bow by hunkydory: This season we're all getting caught up in this trend. The nice thing about this skirt is that it looks like you've tied the skirt around your waist like a kind of blouse. Wear this type of skirt with a simple white T-shirt or with a sleeveless blouse for a feminine spring look. Do you like simple and classic? Then you can combine this skirt with loafers. More the type for a cool look? Then this skirt can also go surprisingly well with a pair of Western boots.

3. How do you combine the midi skirt with split?

This type of midi skirt is simple, yet feminine thanks to the subtle split on the front or side. Try a gray split midi skirt with a statement tee, sneakers and a leather jacket for a sporty look. The classic black midi skirt with split looks great with a white or striped blouse. We've combined it with sneakers here, but when you replace them with heels, this look can also be worn very well to the office.

4. How do you combine the tight midi skirt?

The tight midi skirt, also called the pencil skirt, is the best-known type of midi skirt. The tight midi skirt is available in leather (read here how to combine the leather pencil skirt!), lace, jersey and many more materials. The black pencil skirt from Amatør is super comfortable thanks to the jersey fabric and very suitable for your day off. You can wear the pencil skirt with polka dots from Essentiel Antwerp to work with a classic white blouse and at the weekend with a linen T-shirt and sneakers. Tip: cycling with this skirt is difficult, so you're better off in the car with this look.

5. How do you combine the pleated midi skirt?

From weddings to festivals: the pleated skirt is back this season in countless variations. We see a lot of metallic pleated skirts, for example this bronze midi skirt from Essential Antwerp† We also see a lot of colored pleated skirts in bright red, blue or green. Combine the pleated skirt chic with a white silk blouse and a classic blazer or go for a playful look and combine it with a striped top or statement sweater. Heeled or flat sandals look great with this type of midi skirt!
